96 Baby Milestone Captions (Month 1 to Month 12)

The monthly photo is one of those traditions that's very easy to start and surprisingly easy to abandon around month six. What keeps it going is having the caption ready, so it's a two-minute job rather than a project.

Eight captions for every month below, from newborn to one. Take one, add the detail that's true for your month, post it.

Month 1

1. Month one: we all survived.
2. One month of you. Zero hours of sleep.
3. Thirty days old and already the boss.
4. Newborn: 90% asleep, 10% furious.
5. One month in, still can't believe you're ours.
6. Everything is new, including us.
7. Month one — mostly milk, entirely loved.

Month 2

Month 3

Month 4

25. Month four: rolled over, shocked himself.

28. A third of a year old.
29. Four months of watching him become someone.

31. Officially four months of not sleeping. Worth it.

Month 5

33. Five months and desperate to move.

Month 6

Month 7

49. Seven months and on the move.

Month 8

Month 9

Month 10

Month 11

85. Month eleven — he has a word and he's using it for everything.

87. Month eleven: he can climb now. Send help.
88. One month until the cake.

Month 12

89. One whole year of you.
90. Twelve months, and the best year of our lives.
91. Month twelve: officially a whole year old.
92. From that first day to this one — what a year.
93. One year of you, and I'd do every single day again.
94. Twelve months of firsts, and this is only the start.
95. And just like that, you're one.
96. Year one: complete. On to the next.

Keeping the tradition going

Two things separate the families who finish all twelve from the ones who stop at month six: a recurring phone reminder and the same spot every time. That's it. The photo doesn't have to be good — it has to be consistent, because the twelve-photo grid at the end is the thing you're actually making.

And write one honest detail with each. "Month seven: crawling backwards" will mean more in fifteen years than any caption on this list.
