One is a party you throw for yourselves. Two is the first birthday where there's a whole person in the photographs — with a favorite color, a favorite food, and strong views about both.

That changes the captions. The sentimental ones still work, but the funny ones land harder at two, because now there's something to be funny about.

One hundred below, sorted by the picture, shortest first.

Just short

The honest ones

One practical note

Whichever you pick, write one line about what he's actually like right now — the word he says wrong, the thing he carries everywhere, the food he'll only eat cold. Those are the details that vanish, and they're worth more in fifteen years than anything about how fast time goes.

Frequently asked questions

Something that dates it and something true. 'Two, and extremely sure about it' beats a generic quote, because two is the year the personality arrives and the caption may as well say so.
